The Johor government has announced plans to minimize traffic disruption during the construction of additional lanes on the North-South Expressway (PLUS). The phased approach includes staggered construction zones, smart lanes, and temporary emergency stop areas.
The Johor government has outlined plans to minimize disruption caused by the construction of additional lanes on the North-South Expressway (PLUS), Phase 1, Package A, from Sedenak to Kulai, beginning in July 2025.
State Works, Transportation, Infrastructure, and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the phased approach will involve staggered construction zones, each covering three to four kilometers, and temporary emergency stop areas strategically placed along the route. To further alleviate traffic flow, smart lanes will be implemented, allowing emergency lanes to be open for public use during designated periods. Newly completed lanes will also be opened incrementally to accommodate peak hour and emergency traffic. Phase 1 of the highway expansion project consists of two packages: Package A (Sedenak-Kulai) and Package B (Kulai-Senai Utara). Spanning 22 kilometers, the project is estimated to cost RM525 million and is expected to be completed by January 2028. This initiative is part of a broader effort to widen the highway from Yong Peng Utara to Senai Utara, addressing persistent congestion on the southern route of the PLUS Highway, particularly during public holidays and festive seasons
