Two separate traffic accidents in Johor Baru, Malaysia, have resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. A 40-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a lorry parked on the emergency lane of the North-South Expressway. In a separate incident, a five-vehicle collision at a traffic light in Kempas left several individuals injured.
A 40-year-old man has died following an accident at KM9.7 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) in Johor Baru . The incident, which occurred at 9.30pm on February 4th, involved a motorcycle and a lorry. According to Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh, the accident happened when the motorcyclist crashed into the rear of a lorry that was parked in the emergency lane due to an engine malfunction.
The lorry driver, a 62-year-old man, had placed a warning triangle behind the vehicle at the time of the incident. \The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries to both arms and suffered internal injuries. Despite receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital, he was pronounced dead on February 7th at 4.15pm. The lorry driver escaped unhurt. \In an unrelated incident, ACP Balveer said a five-vehicle collision occurred at a traffic light in Kempas, Johor, on Friday, February 7th. Investigations revealed that the accident took place at the Jalan Kempas Baru traffic lights when a pickup truck, driven by a 33-year-old local man travelling from Pasir Gudang to Setia Tropika, collided with another vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man. Following the collision, the pickup truck veered into the opposite lane and crashed into a van driven by a 53-year-old man. The pickup truck also struck two motorcycles, one ridden by an 18-year-old and another by a 46-year-old, both of whom were stationary at the traffic lights. The van driver sustained head and right leg injuries, while the first rider suffered injuries to his waist, neck, legs, and arms. The second rider sustained injuries to his head, neck, right arm, and both legs. The pickup truck driver and another vehicle involved escaped injury. A urine test on the pickup truck driver returned negative for drugs, while an alcohol screening also showed no presence of alcohol. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
