PETALING JAYA: Johan Ariffin Samad, who was removed as CEO of the Institute for Development Studies Sabah in 2019, has won his case against the think tank for wrongful dismissal. Johan had been appointed to the post in December 2018 but his appointment was not confirmed upon the expiry of his six-month probation period on May 31.
IDS had announced Johan’s departure as CEO on June 14. However, Johan voiced surprise over the announcement, which was made through a press statement. The industrial court eventually ruled that Johan was dismissed by IDS without just cause or reason. In a statement today, Johan said his wrongful dismissal had a detrimental impact on his reputation and family’s name because of unjust accusations of mismanagement and impropriety levelled against him.
“Since a reinstatement would be difficult in these circumstances, the court has awarded the sum and IDS has settled ,” he said.
