A 23-year-old jobless man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for burning five motorcycles in arson cases.
A jobless man was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to three charges of arson by burning five motorcycles between December 2024 and January this year. Judge Najwa Che Mat sentenced Afif Jazimin Jamaluddin, 23, to four years imprisonment for each charge and ordered the sentences to run consecutively starting from the date of his arrest on January 20.
For the first charge, the man was accused of committing arson by burning a Honda EX5 motorcycle at a house in Kampung Jerai here, at 3.15 am, on December 27, 2024. Afif Jazimin was also accused of burning a Modenas Kriss motorcycle, a Honda EX5 and an SM Sport at a house in Kampung Pisang, Kupang here at 3.30 am, on December 24, 2024. He was also accused of committing the same act against a Modenas Kriss motorcycle at a house in Kampung Hangus, Kupang near here at 3.30 am, on January 2 this year. Consequently, he was charged under Section 435 of the Penal Code for each charge, which if convicted, can be imprisoned for up to 14 years and fined. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Amirul Halimi Md Salleh, while the accused was represented by lawyer Intan Nursyafina Baharudin. Previously, the accused was held by the police to assist in the investigation of a case of nine houses being set on fire in Kupang here, from mid-December to early January this year. Besides houses, the fire also destroyed two vehicles and 18 motorcycles causing a loss of RM770,000
