Malaysian authorities have uncovered an international vaping smuggling ring that used false declarations to evade detection. The syndicate, dismantled in a recent operation, operated by declaring vape products as lithium-ion batteries on air waybills and omitting them from electronic pre-alert manifest (ePAM) and K1 forms. This sophisticated tactic, coupled with bribery practices, hindered law enforcement efforts. Investigations are ongoing, with SPRM (Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia) actively pursuing further leads. The operation resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals, including six customs officers, and the seizure of significant assets.
