An inaccurate manifest is making it difficult for authorities to conduct search, rescue, and retrieval operations on MV Lady Mary Joy 3, which caught fire late Wednesday evening, Mayor Arsina Kahing-Nanoh of Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan said.
As of Thursday evening, the Philippine Coast Guard said the number of fatalities due to the incidentA total of 230 survivors were reported in the incident, including the crew aboard the vessel, it added.
Asked if the fire started from an aircondition unit, Kahing-Nanoh said there is no definite confirmation yet but some survivors already gave their accounts regarding the incident. The PCG earlier said the fire allegedly started at the accommodation area on the second deck of the vessel.
