The girls — along with three other children who would have played for different teams — were named honorary all-stars. “Makenna and these girls that are playing on this team were best friends,” Elrod added. “If Makenna were here, we would be here rooting them on. That’s why we came because that’s what Makenna would want.”In total, six of the students slain were Little League players. Eliahna Torres was in the girls’ major league for players ages 10-12, Javier Lopez was in the boys’ minor league, and Jose Flores Jr. was in the boys’ major league. All were 10 years old.
The board members met with the families of the players who were killed, and the families approved. Uvalde would host the district all-star tournament from June 16 through June 30.
