Tanya Plibersek has axed two proposed coal mine projects in Queensland after the proponents failed to provide details on the harm it would do to the environment.

Both the proposed projects were set to be based in Queensland but were axed on Friday over the lack of additional information provided by the proponents.

Two coal mine applications have been cancelled by the government after the proponents failed to provide extra detail. Pictured is the Dendrobium Coal Mine in Wollongong NSW. Simon Birmingham, a former parliamentary secretary to the minister for environment, told Sky News Australia it was"fair enough" if everything was followed by the book. Nationals MP Keith Pitt told Jayes on Friday it appeared the Environment Minister was"celebrating" cancelling the approvals to the mines.

"Let's see what the proponents have to say. Keep in mind Adani took nearly ten years of just going through the courts," Mr Pitt said.
