KOTA KINABALU: Semporna MP Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal first played coy then confirmed he had sent a letter to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker seeking a motion of confidence in former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The Parti Warisan Sabah president only said “ada la itu ” when asked by reporters in Sandakan if he had written a letter to Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Yusof to table the motion to show Dr Mahathir had majority support in Parliament, for when it convenes on May 18.However, Shafie declined to elaborate on his reasons for seeking the special motion, saying that the matter would be deliberated at the appropriate time and place.

A picture of his letter had gone viral on social media late Wednesday but neither he nor his party members responded to it. Shafie, who is Sabah Chief Minister, has remained “friendly” to the Pakatan Harapan block and continues to support Dr Mahathir following the fall of the coalition and the rise of Perikatan Nasional under Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
