The large organisations particularly multinational companies may be well prepared for ‘safe return to work’ with their own standard operating procedures developed weeks in advance, and even have different versions of SOPs for different pandemic scenarios. This may not be the case with most other business owners, who may be struggling to strike a balance between reopening their businesses and ensuring a safe workplace for their employees and prospective customers.

In response, the Malaysian Medical Association cautioned that testing the foreign workers en masse is not a pragmatic approach, as this exercise may quickly. The MMA had instead advised that efforts be focussed on educating the foreign workers and improving their working and living conditions, that predispose them to higher risk of infection with SARS CoV2. We echo the same thoughts and liken the act of mass testing of foreign workers as ‘mopping the floor while the tap is still running’.
