"Obviously the thousand was good, but to watch the way that horse actually won … Jai Williams [the jockey] just marked him as urgent and sent him to the front at 100 miles an hour," Mr Cavanough said.Brett Cavanough was born into racing, but spent more than a decade as a shearer. He said his win rate was about 15 per cent, while his top three placings over his career nudged 40 per cent.Mr Cavanough was born into the racing industry, riding trackwork at the age of 12 before school for his grandfather Frank Cavanough, who was a mentor for one of Australia's best trainers, Peter Moody.According to Mr Cavanough's stats, he has a horse come in first about every seven races."I had 14 years of shearing sheep and there was no horses at all,' he said.
