The identity of a man whose “mummified” remains were found in a home has been revealed as police issue a public appeal for information.
Officers made the grim discovery at the Benowa home, on the Gold Coast, on April 17 after being called to conduct a welfare check by the man’s interstate relatives.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Detective Acting Inspector Mark Proctor said Mr Nemes’ remains were discovered “in an advanced state of decomposition”. Police are also investigating versions of events given by relatives, including allegations that one attempted to see Mr Nemes inside the home but was told by the stepson that he was in hospital.
Mr Nemes’ interstate relatives had lost touch with him over the years but requested the welfare check as they found it “unusual” there was no contact with him over a “lengthy period”, Inspector Proctor said.Police discovered Mr Nemes’ remains on April 17 after conducting a welfare check on behalf of interstate relatives.
