Minister Steven Sim highlighted the ministry's commitment to ensuring the efficient utilization of the collected levy and streamlining processes through the Kesuma Reengineering Policy. The ministry also organized a Chinese New Year open house to celebrate with stakeholders and showcase HRD Corp's CSR initiatives.
The Human Resources Ministry, through the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), achieved a record-breaking levy collection of RM2.3 billion in 2024, surpassing the RM2.1 billion collected in 2023. Minister Steven Sim emphasized that the ministry's objective extends beyond collecting the levy; it aims to ensure its efficient and comprehensive utilization. Sim highlighted the government's commitment to streamlining processes under the Kesuma Reengineering Policy .
He stated that the target is to reduce the processing time for levy claims from employers from one week to just one hour and from seven days to three days for training providers. Sim underscored these aspirations as part of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration. The Human Resources Ministry, including HRD Corp, has implemented management reforms to enhance service delivery to stakeholders. A joint Chinese New Year open house organized by HRD Corp and the ministry at SJK (C) Sin Ming, Puchong, saw a turnout of approximately 1,000 people, including employer groups, industry associations, trainers, training providers, and members of the public. HRD Corp presented its corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions to 20 organizations and NGOs during the event. The festivities included lion dances, traditional workshops on Chinese calligraphy, lantern-making, and Chinese knot art, and a variety of food stalls. Addressing a separate matter, Sim stated that any plans, such as the proposal to hire Rohingya refugees to address labor demands in the food and beverage sector, must align with the country's laws and policies. He encouraged all stakeholders, including the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma), to provide feedback. Presma president Datuk Jawahir Ali Taib Khan expressed that the limited response from locals to job advertisements placed through the Labour Department left them with no choice but to hope for government approval of foreign worker recruitment.
