Danielle McEwen is the owner and creative director of Tigmi Trading, which specialises in exotic rugs and artefacts.

Fifteen years ago, just before the influx of luxury storefronts took hold of the now boutique-studded Le Marais in Paris, Byron Bay-based Danielle McEwan stumbled upon an antique store sandwiched between a neighbourhood cafe and boulangerie.

“It was busy, but it just worked well underneath every piece for sale, whether that was antique, vintage or contemporary.” “It not only captures the light beautifully, but it adds texture and dimensionality. The silk freshens up what’s a traditional design and gives the colours a patina. It’s an expressive and playful collection, and although we’ve stuck to one design, we’ve done it in four earthy colour combinations: Caramel, Muscade, Pistache and Sienne.”

Rugs have long captivated McEwan; they launched the former Sony public relations executive on her design career, taking her to Moroccan villages to source handwoven ones, which she sold to friends, then through Instagram, then at retail spaces such as Newrybar Merchants – a collective of artisans and curators of fine goods in the Byron Bay Hinterland – before establishing her standalone store.

She said lavender is a “secondary crop” at the Victorian estate as they lost an olive harvest due to wind blowing its blossom off. “So, we decided to do the lavender and it’s the perfect climate for it,” Ms Chasney told Sky News host Paul Murray. “We predominantly do culinary lavender – we make lavender gelato, lavender gin and we get … the local café to make lavender scones for us.”
