Honda and Mitsubishi have recalled thousands of cars over a “serious” airbag safety issue. 7NEWS

The Australian Competitor and Consumer Commission advises the two companies have commenced voluntary recalls for vehicles manufactured between 1997 and 2000.

“Owners of affected Honda and Mitsubishi vehicles are advised to stop driving their cars immediately and contact their manufacturer.”The Honda models at risk are the Legend, CR-v and the Accord manufactured between 1998 and 2000. “Two drivers have already died in Australia after their Takata NADI 5-AT airbags ruptured and propelled metal parts into the car interior,” ACCC Chair Rod Sims said.
