Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has hailed Mary Doyle’s “historic achievement” winning the Aston by-election, being the first candidate from a government party to win a seat from the Opposition in over 100 years.

Mr Albanese said Ms Doyle’s compassion, dignity and common decency really “shone through” during the campaign.

“I think that this campaign was an extraordinary one, and Mary is an extraordinary individual,” he said.
