Judge Datuk Hashim Hamzah set the date after hearing both submissions in his chambers, which lasted about an hour.
Vell Paari’s counsel Datuk David Mathews, when met outside the court, briefly said there were good reasons that the proceedings should be stayed – pending the determination of Samy Vellu’s mental capacity – at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.The 59 year-old claims that she and the former MIC president held a customary marriage in Kuala Lumpur in 1981.“We objected as he is perfectly okay. Vell Paari, who is Samy Vellu’s eldest son, also wants to know all the properties owned by his 83-year-old father. The 58-year-old politician, in his supporting affidavit, said Samy Vellu’s mental health has deteriorated since 2017. He claims that Meeriam had initiated legal proceedings against him and his father at the High Court here and is trying to take advantage of his father’s condition.
