Malaysia's newly appointed men's doubles head coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi, is taking a cautious approach, stating he needs time to assess player performance before making any changes to existing pairings. He also aims to foster consistency within the team and hopes to help former World Champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik regain their top form.
Malaysia's men's doubles head coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi, has no immediate plans to disrupt existing pairings. Herry, who officially commenced his role at Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara today, stated that he requires time to evaluate the performance of his players before implementing any alterations to the men's doubles team. 'If the performance is not up to standard (of the men's doubles team), we will change it.
However, for now, I haven't thought about changing the pairs,' he explained to reporters following a team training session. 'It could be the same during training, but not the same in competitions. So, I'll observe the performances in the tournaments first. I can't say for sure how long it will take,' he added. The 62-year-old coach, affectionately known as 'Herry IP,' also has no intention of modifying the current training program and acknowledges he needs time before making any necessary adjustments. 'So, I have to adapt first, then gradually, we will make small changes, but not total changes,' he stated, reminding the players to always relish their training sessions. The Indonesian coaching legend expressed hopes of assisting former World Champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik to achieve greater consistency following their semi-final losses in the 2025 India Open and 2025 Indonesia Masters. He also commended the 2025 Indonesia Masters champions, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, and is optimistic that the 12th-ranked pair globally will secure more titles in the future based on their current form. When inquired about his interest in organizing training sessions with other professional pairings, such as Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Herry deferred the decision to ABM's Director of Coaching, Rexy Mainaky, and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
