Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad clarifies that the decision to shelve the Waktu Bekerja Berlainan (WBB) pilot project was not a hasty 'flip-flop' but a calculated move to ensure comprehensive stakeholder engagement.
Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, the Health Minister, has stated that the cancellation of the Waktu Bekerja Berlainan ( WBB ) pilot project was not a 'flip-flop' decision. He emphasized that the Cabinet's decision to shelve the staggered working hours system was intended to allow for more comprehensive engagement with all relevant stakeholders. According to Dzulkefly, the WBB project was still in its pilot phase and hadn't reached a final implementation decision.
He acknowledged that the initial announcement faced criticism due to the lack of involvement from certain parties. Dzulkefly, who is also the vice-president of Amanah, made these remarks during his closing speech at the 2024 Amanah National Convention on Sunday, January 26, 2025.On January 24th, Dzulkefly issued a statement announcing the Cabinet's decision to suspend the WBB pilot project. He explained that this decision was made after careful consideration of all relevant factors and to allow for a more in-depth and comprehensive study. To facilitate this process, the Health Ministry has established a special committee, headed by former Health director-general Tan Sri Abu Bakar Suleiman. Dzulkefly also admitted that the leak of information regarding the guidelines for the WBB pilot project, which were circulated through a circular, was a mistake that contributed to disputes. He stated that the leak prompted doctors across the country to question their lack of involvement, leading to demands for inclusion. Dzulkefly raised this issue with the Cabinet, and after explaining the situation, the Cabinet agreed that he should cancel the WBB pilot project. He assured that the study would continue to gather views from all parties involved. - Bernam
