Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, Finance Minister and Secretary-General of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), expressed confidence in the coalition's performance in the upcoming state election, despite potential competition from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu). He highlighted the strong support from his constituents and emphasized the importance of promptly addressing public concerns and cooperating with the ongoing investigations into corruption allegations.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun expressed confidence that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah ( GRS ) would fare well in the upcoming state election, citing strong support from his constituents during his regular weekend visits to his village. He acknowledged the potential competition from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), which is reportedly eyeing 18 seats in the 17th Sabah Election .
Masidi, who previously held the Karanaan seat under Bersatu before joining state-based Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, welcomed competition, stating that it is inherent to a democratic system. He emphasized that political rivalry in Sabah has always remained respectful and friendly, despite differing ideologies. While he believes GRS holds an advantage, Masidi cautioned against complacency, stressing that the ultimate decision rests with the voters. \Addressing concerns raised by constituents regarding government initiatives perceived as mere political gestures, Masidi urged swift action on issues such as the long-standing Kundasang-Ranau road problem. He asserted that leaders should not delay problem-solving due to fear of political accusations and emphasized that issues must be resolved promptly, regardless of election season. Masidi also commented on the ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption involving several assemblymen linked to a mineral project. As one of those implicated, he stated that he had nothing to hide and urged the public to allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to conduct its investigation without interference. He reiterated his cooperation with the MACC and emphasized the importance of letting the investigation proceed without outside influence.
