Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has indicated he would welcome the new National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate serious allegations surrounding former Morrison government minister Stuart Robert.

Mr Robert has been embroiled in bombshell claims levelled by Anthony Daley, the former partner of the then-director of Synergy 360 Kham Xaysavanh, who alleged the company amended its ownership structure to pay the then-government services minister.

Mr Shorten said the content of Mr Daley’s statement was “breathtaking” and was actively seeking advice on his options. “The result of an internal review into the deals found significant concerns over conflicts of interest, poor value for money and inadequate record keeping, NACC needs to go further and deeper into this murky arrangement,” Greens justice spokesman David Shoebridge said in a statement.

Independent MP for McKellar Dr Sophie Scamps added to the growing calls for greater scrutiny on the matter, telling Sky News Australia on Wednesday: “There’s definitely something that smells here that does need to be investigated further”. Among the allegations in the submission were claims Mr Robert attended numerous meetings arranged by Mr Milo to allow clients “direct discussions” with the minister about upcoming tenders and contracts.

While refusing to rule out a referral, he said the government respected the Commissioner, Major General Paul Brereton’s independence.
