A new poll reveals that the vast majority of Greenlanders oppose becoming part of the United States, despite President Trump's expressed interest in annexing the Arctic island. The poll, conducted by Verian agency, found that 85 percent of respondents were against US annexation, while 6 percent favored it and 9 percent were undecided. Greenlanders are divided on whether Trump's interest is a threat or an opportunity, with 45 percent viewing it as a threat and 43 percent as an opportunity.

Trump, who returned to the White House in late January, has signalled that he wants the Arctic island -- which is believed to hold large untapped mineral and oil reserves -- to become part of the United States and has suggested the possible use of force or tariffs to annex the autonomous Danish territory.
Six percent of those polled said they were in favour and nine percent were undecided, according to the poll conducted by the Verian agency.
