Royal Australian College of GPs Vice President Dr Bruce Willett says the bulk billing incentive is “great news”, as the government pledges more funding towards rural medical practices and GPs.
“It’s a start … and it’s difficult to imagine they’re going to turn around decades of neglect in one budget,” he told Sky News Australia.
“It will need extra funding for rural practices because the bulk billing incentive is loaded more towards rural practices, so that’s great news. “It will take a little bit of time … in terms of more GPs to rural areas … and we’re hoping for more investment in future budgets … this is certainly heading in the right direction.”
