Virgin Media Television has canceled the upcoming season of 'Grá ar an Trá', a reality dating show, due to co-host Gráinne Seoige's candidacy in the next Irish general election. The station cited their commitment to adhering to media codes and rules regarding impartiality during election periods as the reason for the decision.
The show, which is co-fronted by Gráinne Seoige, was due to hit screens tonight for a six week run on the station.
"An Coimisiún has had no contact with the broadcaster regarding the airing of this series and has no role in the editorial process or scheduling of programming by broadcasters."However, broadcasters are required to comply with Media Codes and Rules, including Coimisiún na Meán’s Code of Fairness, objectivity and impartiality.
"In addition, endorsements on-air by staff of election interests, including candidates, are also not permitted."James Kavanagh, who also fronts the show, recently opened up about the new series.
