KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian government is facing criticism once again for its alleged inconsistent approach to handling the issue of electricity tariff hikes, causing confusion among the public. Machang Member of Parliament, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, questioned the government's fluctuating stance on the tariff increase, which was reportedly set to take effect in July.

He stated that Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) had confirmed to Bursa Malaysia that the tariff adjustment under the Fourth Regulatory Period (RP4) had been approved by the Energy Commission and the Ministry of Energy and Green Technology. However, he claimed the government later denied the increase before hinting that the adjustment would still occur, but not affecting households. 'This is not the first time the government has made 'flip-flop' decisions. Initially, an increase was announced, the public became angry, suddenly the government changed its stance and stated there would be no increase. Then, yesterday, the government said there would be a recalibration with further details to be provided. What is actually happening?' he said in a press conference at Parliament. Ahmad Fayhsal also questioned the government's transparency in addressing the matter, including the possibility of conflicting information between TNB and the government. 'If TNB has confirmed the increase to Bursa, but the government denies it, who is telling the truth? Is TNB providing false information or is the government actually trying to quell public anger before announcing something that has already been decided earlier?' he questioned. -- UTUSA

Malaysia Airports Directors Not Terminated, Contradicts Parliamentarian's ClaimMalaysia Airports Directors Not Terminated, Contradicts Parliamentarian's ClaimMalaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) clarifies that its independent directors have not been terminated, contradicting a statement by Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal. MAHB explains that these directors are not appointed on contract but are appointed and continue to serve on the Board of Directors. Any changes in the composition of MAHB's Board of Directors will be announced to Bursa Malaysia, as the company is a public listed entity. Wan Ahmad Fayhsal recently claimed to have received information that the directors' contracts had been terminated by Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the country's sovereign wealth fund, allegedly due to their objections to a proposed MAHB restructuring agreement. This issue follows an independent advisor from Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) suggesting that shareholders accept an offer by Gateway Development Alliance (GDA) at RM11.00 per share. However, directors Datuk Mohamad Husin, Ramanathan Sathiamutty, Cheryl Khor Hui Peng, Datuk Seri Koe Peng Kang, and Chris Chia Woon Liat, have voiced their dissatisfaction, deeming the offer unfair and unreasonable.
