Georgia wide receiver Rara Thomas was arrested early Monday on charges of battery-family violence and false imprisonment, according to Athens-Clarke County jail records. Thomas played his high school football in Alabama at Eufaula High.
Thomas, who transferred to Georgia from Mississippi State after the 2022 season, was released on bond at 12:35 p.m. Monday after being booked at 4:04 a.m. The false imprisonment charge is a felony., Thomas is accused of causing “physical hard to a female,” including a bruise on her bicep and abrasions to her shin. The false imprisonment charge stems from Thomas allegedly standing in front of her dorm room door and telling her she could not leave.
Thomas, whose given name is Rodarius, played his high school football in Alabama at Eufaula High. He had a breakout season as a sophomore at Mississippi State in 2022, catching 44 passes for 626 yards and seven touchdowns. Thomas was considered a key offseason addition for the two-time national champion Bulldogs, who also added Missouri wide receiver Dominic Lovett and Texas A&M defensive back Smoke Bouie through the transfer portal. Starting wide receiver AD Mitchell left via the portal for Texas.
According to Georgia Athletic Association policy, student-athletes arrested on felony charges are automatically suspended indefinitely from team activities pending a review by the school’s Comprehensive Action Plan Committee, which is made up a key athletic department staff.“We are aware of a reported incident involving conduct by one of our student-athletes.
