One upcoming Star Wars movie will finally reveal the origin of the Jedi Order - and George Lucas' original plans for the Jedi may explain its plot.
George Lucas' original Jedi origin plans may explain a key part of an upcoming Star Wars movie. George Lucas may be a visionary, but in reality Star Wars took shape over the course of years. The earliest drafts of Lucas' movies referred to an organization called the Jedi Bendu, described as "the most feared warriors in the universe" and "the personal bodyguards of the Emperor.
Director James Mangold is officially working on a Star Wars prequel movie exploring what came before the Jedi, and he has suggested the word "Jedi" may not even be used in the project. "It will be before the Jedi," he confirmed in a recent interview. "Meaning, you might be experiencing something that might become Jedi. Despite the fact other people make movies other ways, I don't tend to think people brand themselves before they've actually found themselves...
The Jedi emerged from the Dai Bendu roughly 25,000 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, but the Dai Bendu did not simply go extinct. Rather, according to the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary, the Dai Bendu remained active in the galaxy until 1,000 years before the prequels. This was a time of great change in the galaxy, with the war between the Jedi and the Sith coming to an end, and the Sith Empire destroyed.
