After the infamous robbery at the Crockfords Platinum Club at the SkyCasino in Resorts World Genting, police have been doing what they can to close the case.
Just yesterday, police revealed that they detained over ten people and uncovered more information regarding the theft case. However, allegedly, while the net is closing in on those involved, police have shared that there are five more suspects at large who are vital to the case.Of the ten who were arrested, two have been released on bail while the others are being detained for one to five days to help with the investigations into SkyCasino theft.
However, one of the suspects, a 32-year-old who will be detained for five days, is allegedly the mastermind of the case. According to sources, he was one of the two responsible from lifting the chips directly from the tables in the casino. At the moment, the other known thief who appeared on the CCTV is still at large, along with four others.
The job was initally believed to be an inside job as the thieves supposedly had knowledge of the casino's layout. However, police have since excluded that element as it was discovered the duo had committed the crime randomly without foreplanning. But, police sources claim that one of the two thieves is a former Genting employee who likely knows the in-and-outs of the casino and its operations.
As of now, a large portion of the chips have reportedly been recovered, with roughly RM1.58 million in chips still unaccounted for. The SkyCasino staff supposedly managed to intercept RM2 million worth of chips, by blacklisting the stolen chips, thanks to the RFID chip embedded in each of them. Unfortunately, it is believed a some of those stolen chips were successfully cashed in prior to the discovery of the robbery. As while the police did manage to recover 428 chips worth RM2.9 million during their raids and investigation, 279 of those chips had already been converted into cash by the suspect with a total of RM16,438 being seized.Police have said that the SkyCasino theft case is a first for the Pahang police and also the first case with the largest sum of money involved.
