IPOH: The Sultan of Perak has said there is plenty to lose if we reject and deny cultural diversity.
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah has waded into the issue of the unusual spike in the latest Sabah electoral roll.said the shocking spike of more than half a million new voters since the last state election in September 2020 warranted a thorough review. In light of this, Bangkuai has suggested that every PBS division should take the initiative to thoroughly scrutinise the electoral roll to verify the identity of the new voters.
“Compile and report these findings to party headquarters so we have a basis to pursue the next course of action,” he added.PBS is the third party from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah to have voiced its concern over the electoral roll in recent days. This was after SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee called on Monday for the Election Commission to conduct a forensic audit on the sharp increase in the number of voters.Yong said the latest figure of 574,120 new voters in Sabah from 1.06 million voters in 2008 to more than 1.6 million voters in 2022 was worrying as it could include dubious MyKad holders.
He also pointed out that PBS’ ongoing concern that illegitimate voters could result from automatic registration was now justifiable.PBS president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili had said earlier that while the party supports the automatic registration of 18-year-olds as voters, it should not be extended to Sabah until the existing voter list is thoroughly vetted and verified.
