PETALING JAYA: All Dewan Rakyat proceedings have been halted following the dissolution of Parliament, says Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun.
The Parliament Speaker confirmed that he had received the proclamation of the dissolution of Parliament on Monday , which was signed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
He noted that the proclamation was in accordance with Article 55 of the Federal Constitution, which provides the discretion to the King to dissolve Parliament. "As such, the Dewan Rakyat proceedings, as well as those of the Special Chambers, Select Committee and Special Select Committee meetings scheduled, are now cancelled following the dissolution proclamation," he said in a statement on Monday .His statement came after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's announcement on Monday that the King had given his consent to dissolve Parliament.
The dissolution of Parliament paves the way for the 15th General Election to be held within 60 days. Before the dissolution, the Dewan Rakyat meeting was scheduled to end on Nov 29 while the Dewan Negara was supposed to hold its meeting from Nov 21 until Dec 7.
