The federal Treasurer’s worst-case scenario for household gas prices has become a reality with prices up by 30 per cent in Queensland and 22 per cent in New South Wales over the past year.

Jim Chalmers had previously warned prices would rise by 20 per cent this year and next without intervention.

Bills are expected to rise even higher with EnergyAustralia consumers in Victoria to pay an average of 26.7 per cent extra from next month and Origin and AGL to follow a similar trajectory.
