Whoever carved “Jesus saves” into the rock of a protected Queensland mountain could be looking at jail time if caught, authorities are warning. 7NEWS
They believe a power tool was used to carve the phrase “Jesus saves, just ask him” into the rock at the base of the summit route during the night of either May 20 or 21.Authorities say the vandalism is a serious offence under Queensland environmental laws.“It looks clumsy and awful, and rangers and the community take a zero-tolerance approach to offences like this in our national parks.
Smith described the vandalism as a “serious offence” under Queensland environmental and heritage laws. He said the Jinibara traditional owners — who have previously expressed opposition to people climbing the mountain — will be engaged for works to minimise the aesthetic damage.
