A fuel subsidy diesel smuggling ring worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit was successfully dismantled following a raid on a suspected illegal storage facility in Sungai Lokan, Butterworth, yesterday evening. The raid, conducted by a team of enforcement officers from the Penang Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), followed a two-month intelligence operation based on public information. Four local men believed to be workers at the facility were also detained for further investigation. Upon further examination, authorities recovered approximately 27,000 liters of subsidized diesel and several other tools used for the smuggling operation. Besides seizing the diesel, KPDN also confiscated a tanker lorry, a four-wheel-drive vehicle, several Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) tanks containing diesel oil, and several related documents. The total value of the confiscated and seized items is estimated at RM260,860.
