‘That’s pretty scary’: The brutal reality of Super Netball’s pay stalemate

The current Collective Player Agreement between Super Netball and the Australian Netball Players’ Association expires at the weekend and despite months of negotiations and acrimony, a new one is still not signed, meaning no binding contracts for season 2024 have been inked. “And this is the issue … it’s so stressful for those sort of players who don’t know where their futures lie. It must be a really anxious time,” Green said of the professional and personal limbo that “first-picked” stars like Watson and Bruce simply don’t have to face.
“There’s a lot of playing around by agents, players, clubs, coaches at the moment. There’s a lot going on. There’s a lot of dynamics. Generally in a small space, it’s okay, but when it gets pushed out as long as it has, I think it hasn’t been ideal.
