A former Victorian premier has claimed the state can’t handle a mass influx of migration at the moment, arguing there is not enough housing supply in the market.

He argued it should be targeted to fill skills shortages but warned an influx en masse would contribute to the housing crisis. “And those who on arrival will be adding to demand, and therefore lifting prices beyond what currently exist.” Following the federal government’s budget being handed down, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said migration was being undertaken"in an unplanned way".
