Former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett has argued government employees who do not work from the office should be paid less than their counterparts left with no choice but to turn up.
He suggested these workers could pay about $10,000 or more each year on travelling to the office, while other public servants are encouraged to work from home.
The 75-year-old said a new “divide” exists, especially in the public sector between the working from home class and those that have no option but to turn up. “Of course, where a person works from should be the choice of the individual, but you can’t have your cake and eat it too.” In making its decision on public sector executive pay, the tribunal considered the state's wages policy, Victoria's financial position, current and projected economic conditions and submissions on its proposed determination.
Chief executive Matt Comyn informed the major bank’s employees in an email on Monday of the company's expectation for staff to work in the office more frequently.
