Former Liberal minister Gareth Ward will contest his seat of Kiama as an independent candidate at next month’s state election after being forced to the crossbench over sexual assault charges
.
While Premier Dominic Perrottet said earlier this year that he was confident the Liberals would win back the seat, they are yet to confirm a candidate.Former journalist and union director Katelin McInerney is contesting the seat for the Labor Party. Ward holds the seat on a margin of 12 per cent. In a statement titled “Bring It On”, Ward said was contesting his seat as an independent “to stand up for the principles and values that are worth fighting for”.
