A former director of a government agency in Sabah, Malaysia, was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes totaling approximately RM110,000 from companies awarded supply contracts. The suspect, a 50-year-old man, is suspected of soliciting bribes for himself and officers under his supervision in exchange for favorable treatment. The SPRM seized a variety of items, including electronics, musical instruments, and accessories, as evidence.

KOTA KINABALU: A former director of a government agency in the state was arrested for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes of approximately RM110,000 from several companies that received supply contracts. Sabah's Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission ( SPRM ) detained the 50-year-old male suspect around 2:30 pm yesterday while attending a statement at the Kota Kinabalu SPRM Office.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have committed the act in early 2024 and solicited bribes for officers under his supervision. The suspect is also suspected of receiving bribes in the form of goods such as washing machines, laptops, tablets, smartphones, electric guitars, gym equipment, car accessories, and payments for motorcycle purchases. According to a source in a statement, Sabah SPRM Director, Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the SPRM Act 2009. SPRM also seized and confiscated all the seized items. However, he said that the suspect would be released on SPRM bail after being taken. – UTUSA
