JOHOR BARU: Almost 50,000 people have been evacuated and taken to temporary relief centres (PPS) as torrential rain continues to fall in Johor.
The state Disaster Management Committee said as of 4pm on Sunday , the number of victims had risen to 49,450 people from 14,233 families, up from 46,742 people from 13,552 families at noon.“The majority of the victims are from Batu Pahat, with 18,485 people, followed by Segamat , Kluang , and Muar ,” it said in a statement here.
The other affected districts are Kota Tinggi , Tangkak , Mersing , Johor Baru , Pontian , and Kulai . “The PPS with the highest number of evacuees is at SK Kampung Jawa with 2,537 victims from Kampung Jawa and SMK Seri Bali with 2,437 victims from Kampung Baru Chaah in Segamat,” it added.
