Flood Situation in Malaysia: Sarawak Recovers, Pahang Sees Slight Increase in Evacuees

The flood situation in Malaysia has seen mixed developments as of Friday evening. While Sarawak has fully recovered, Pahang has experienced a slight rise in evacuees, and Sabah remains unchanged. The State Disaster Management Committee (JBPN) reports that all evacuees in Kanowit Sports Complex Hall have returned home.

The flood situation in Sarawak has completely recovered. Meanwhile, in Pahang , the number of evacuees at temporary evacuation centers has seen a small increase, and in Sabah , the situation remains unchanged as of 8pm on Friday (Jan 17).

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (JBPN), all 44 evacuees from 22 families who had been taking shelter at the Kanowit Sports Complex Hall were allowed to return to their homes at 2pm on Friday after floodwaters receded and conditions were deemed safe. The Social Welfare Department (JKM) Infobencana portal recorded a slight increase in the number of people affected by the floods in Raub, with 32 evacuees from 13 families seeking shelter tonight, compared to 31 evacuees from 12 families earlier on Friday. The Irrigation and Drainage Department's Infobanjir.water.gov.my portal has reported that seven rivers in the state have surpassed the alert level, including Sungai Belat at Gambang bridge; Sungai Belat in Sri Damai; Sungai Rimau in Kuantan; Sungai Dong in Kampung Peruas, Raub; Sungai Keratong in Rompin; Sungai Luit in Kampung Subuh, Maran, and Sungai Pahang in Kuala Krau, in Temerloh. The number of evacuees from Kampung Tamisan and Kampung Radu Tigaman, who are currently sheltered at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bengkongan in Kota Marudu, remains unchanged, with 17 people from six families as of Friday night. – Bernam
