The number of flood evacuees in Malaysia has seen fluctuations across different states. Sarawak witnessed a decrease in evacuees, while Sabah and Johor recorded increases. Sarikei in Sarawak became the latest district affected by floods, opening a relief center.
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees housed at temporary evacuation centres in Sarawak has dropped, while Sabah and Johor recorded an increase as of 8pm on Wednesday ., the Sarawak Disaster Management Secretariat said the number of evacuees dropped to 5,125 from 5,281 on Wednesday afternoon, with Sarikei being the latest to be affected by the disaster, thus opening a relief centre, bringing the total number of relief centres to 30.
In Sibu, the number of flood victims increased to 876 people compared to 848 people previously, the Serian Division remained at 507 victims, while the Samarahan Division dropped to 149 victims compared to 294 people on Wednesday afternoon. According to him, Kinabatangan is the only district still hit by floods in the state where 73 people from 20 families are housed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sukau PPS and 155 people from 40 families are housed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Garam PPS., the latest state to be hit by floods, the number of evacuees increased to 364 people on Wednesday night compared to 349 in the evening.
