Firefighters have rescued residents who were trapped inside a burning care facility in Melbourne’s east, with the blaze being treated as suspicious.
Some residents were unable to leave their homes due to the smoke, and were heard coughing while on the line to emergency services operators.commander John Dakis told ABC radio that the scene was chaotic. Residents have since been moved to emergency accommodation, and the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing was looking for alternative living arrangements as their homes were badly damaged.One person was treated for smoke inhalation and another taken to hospital with chest pain.
