The lawsuit filed Wednesday by the family of Kenneth Knotts, 41, alleges that UT Southwestern Medical Center police officers — who have not been publicly...

The Dallas Morning News first reported Kenneth Knotts’ death last month after his autopsy report was amended.

“While the Knotts family and I are eager to see the body-camera footage, we already know the essential facts,” Henley toldKenneth Wayne Knotts died in UT Southwestern police custody on Nov. 29, 2022. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office in August ruled his death a homicide caused by sudden cardiac arrest due to law enforcement physical restraining him in a semi-prone position.UT Southwestern Medical Center did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.

Knotts wasn’t suspected of criminal wrongdoing the day he died, and he didn’t try to assault officers, according to the report. The report said he fled and resisted arrest. As Knotts drove toward Dallas with his girlfriend and two young sons in the hours before he died, he grew agitated with reckless drivers and his tire blew out, his girlfriend told police, according to a Hutchins incident report.

Information about what transpired after Knotts entered an emergency room about 7:25 a.m. was only available in UT Southwestern’s report to the attorney general, and did not appear to include details the medical examiner noted after watching officers’ body cameras. The report UT Southwestern police submitted to the attorney general says that at about 11:18 a.m., two officers responded to Knotts’ treatment room after reports of a disturbance.

At 12:07 p.m., he was back in a treatment room at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, which is part of UT Southwestern Medical Center, the report said.‘Gut-wrenching’
