The former state leader’s profile was undoubtedly a boon for One Nation. But without such a figurehead, the party’s days as a political force in NSW are numbered.
When political firebrand Mark Latham took the unorthodox step of quitting the NSW upper house midway into his first term as a One Nation MP, he stressed it was about accountability.
The one-time federal Labor leader was One Nation’s biggest electoral asset, and heading the party’s upper house ticket was its best hope of winning seats. One Nation in NSW needed Latham., alleging financial impropriety against the party that revived his political career. His colleague Rod Roberts has followed, leaving NSW with a lone MP in Labor turncoat Tania Mihailuk. The party was bullish about its chances in March.
