ESSCOM Commander, DCP Datuk Victor Sanjos, announced the successful interception of a smuggling operation in Kampung Bakau. Two Filipino nationals were detained, and cigarettes valued at over RM870,000, along with a vehicle and three boats, were seized.

The Eastern Sabah Security Command ( ESSCOM ) apprehended two Filipino nationals and successfully disrupted an attempt to smuggle cigarettes estimated to be worth RM871,854.40 after taxes. This operation took place in the Kampung Bakau water village squatter colony near Lahad Datu yesterday, based on a public tip-off. \\\ ESSCOM Commander, DCP Datuk Victor Sanjos, revealed that the raid resulted in the seizure of 580,000 sticks of various white cigarette brands and 440 small packets of tobacco.

In addition to the contraband, authorities also confiscated a four-wheel drive vehicle and three outboard motorboats valued at approximately RM62,000. \\\The suspects are facing charges under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while the smuggling case is being investigated under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967. DCP Victor Sanjos emphasized that ESSCOM will continue to conduct special operations to counter threats to security, peace, and public well-being in eastern Sabah.
