Voting is unnecessarily complicated at Southwest ISD.
If you are a Southwest ISD community member who has not cast a vote for school board this election, we urge you to do so. Election Day is Saturday.because it was not included on the Bexar County election ballot. Southwest ISD residents who live in the city must vote for school board trustees and a school bond at a separate polling location from the municipal election.
The district is helmed by Jeanette Ball, a new superintendent whose hasty exit in November from Judson ISD was marked by controversy. This election, Southwest ISD is asking voters to approve athat includes two propositions for renovations, two new elementary schools and security upgrades. While Garza-Lopez and Bernal are sometimes on the losing end of a 5-2 split on board votes, the questions they raise are critical.
“We’re concerned that our school board won’t be representative of the community,” Garza-Lopez told this Editorial Board.
