Peter Dutton described Bill Shorten as a 'political animal' and accused the Government Services Minister and Anthony Albanese of using every opportunity to 'milk out' whatever political advantage they could amid the Robodebt Royal Commission.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has sensationally accused Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of taking"glee" in politicising the Royal Commission into Robodebt - a failed Coalition scheme which devastated the lives of hundreds of thousands of Australians.
On Friday Ms Holmes referred several individuals for civil and criminal prosecution in a"sealed chapter" of the report which has been received by the new National Anti-Corruption, the Australian Federal Police, legal standards bodies and the Public Service Commission. "Some of my colleagues have issued public statements on legal advice, they are disputing some of the conclusions that have been drawn in the commission process and that's entirely their right to do so," he told reporters in Brisbane on Saturday.
"[Shorten] is a political animal and he has used every opportunity to milk out whatever political advantage there is to the Labor Party out of this particular issue and the Prime Minister is doing the same." Mr Dutton conceded important lessons had been learned from Robodebt and apologised to the victims and families of the failed scheme.
The 1,000-page inquiry into Robodebt included 57 recommendations and referred up to 20 people involved in developing and implementing the unlawful policy for prosecution.
