A total of P584,122 worth of food and non-food items were distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Offices (FO) II and VI for residents affected by typhoon BettyPH (international name: Mawar) and southwest monsoon.
In a statement on Tuesday, May 30, the Disaster Response and Management Bureau reported that P99,150 worth of assistance was given by DSWD FO II to residents in the municipalities of Basco, Batanes; Alcala, Cagayan; and Cabagan, Isabela.
There were also about 42 families of 251 individuals seeking temporary shelter in eight evacuation centers in the said region due to inclement weather brought by Betty. Meanwhile, the DSWD FO VI has already provided P484,972 worth of assistance to families affected by the southwest monsoon rains in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.Sixteen evacuation centers are on standby for 815 families, or 3,258 individuals, who will need shelter.
"DSWD disaster response teams in all affected regions remain on standby to provide technical assistance and augment resources to localities that are experiencing the effects of Typhoon Betty," said DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez. "Rest assured that all member agencies of the Disaster Response Cluster are also coordinating with their regional counterparts to ensure the smooth delivery of assistance," he added.
