PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation as Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman has been rejected by the party’s supreme council.

This was revealed by Bersatu supreme council member Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen, who was met by reporters at Bersatu’s headquarters, after attending a special party meeting on Monday night.“We want Dr Mahathir to continue leading Bersatu and our country to greater heights.”

Meanwhile, Mohd Rafiq also said that that a group of Bersatu supreme council members is set to meet Dr Mahathir at his residence in Seri Kembangan on Tuesday morning. Asked if there was a reason behind Dr Mahathir’s resignation, Mohd Rafiq merely said: “That is very personal, we cannot disclose.” However, Dr Mahathir, who resigned earlier Monday from premiership as well as Bersatu chairman, was nowhere to be seen at the party’s headquarters.
