Gabrielle Manning was climbing the ladder of a corporate career in the fashion industry until, in her early 30s, she and two of her sisters quit their jobs to go it alone.

From 2005, the trio worked around the clock to get the business off the ground. By 2006, they’d opened their first retail store on Paddington’s Oxford Street, after they spent countless hours renovating a three-level terrace. The following year’s response was a creative, edgy collection. And while the press loved it, their customers didn’t.Sales nosedived. Manning tells Female Founders if they had been slower to discover their collection was not selling the way they had expected it to, they would have gone under.
